Voice of the Future
With the wrap of one of the largest tech conferences in the world, CES 2018 left us speechless. Welcoming thousands of brands and exhibitors, this year’s conference highlighted the best in technology and computing. Driverless air taxis and OLED TVs that roll up, where do you begin to describe what our everyday lives will look like in 5 years? Voice activation, on the other hand, is very much a reality for many of us.
This is not an unfamiliar technology. We see it today. “Siri, set alarm for 6:30”. Smart phones gave us unprecedented access to the world network and now more than ever, it’s hands-free. Apple continues to lead the charge for many of these smart phone advances. More recently, this convenience technology entered our home with voice-assistants such as Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa. “Alexa, play Michael Jackson’s Thriller”, a personal favourite.
Tech experts say that voice will be the next major evolution in computing. The most surprising was the Las Vegas reveal (fitting!) of the Kohler’s Numi Smart Toilet. With a $6,000 price tag, this intelligent porcelain will warm your seat and feet, set the mood with lighting and music with the simple melody of your voice. That last part makes me laugh.
It’s no surprise that the tech age will completely change the way we live. The challenge is keeping up with how quickly it changes – – “Alexa, buy the red pump Jimmy Choo in 8”.
