Golden Week is one of the busiest holidays in China and Japan. In China, the Lunar New Year Golden Week begins in January or February and the National Day Golden Week begins around October 1st. If the Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as Moon Cake Festival) falls near National Day, the holiday may be 8 days long instead of 7.
Golden Week was implemented to help develop the domestic tourism market and improve the national standard of living. Families often reunite and take trips during this time. Do you have visitors coming to Vancouver this fall?
First stop, Oakridge Centre. Let our premium valet parking service take away the stress of finding parking! Start your day by enjoying dim sum in a private room reserved for your party at Peninsula Seafood Restaurant. They specialize in elevated Cantonese classics with a must-try double-boiled bird’s nest soup infused with ginger! After an unforgettable meal, head over to our Unwritten Exhibition to see what the future development of Oakridge has to offer.
Continue your day by exploring Vancouver’s world-renowned 400-hectare Stanley Park, offering a wide range of memorable experiences, including the Vancouver Aquarium (it’s the largest in Canada). Discover the 10km seawall which surrounds the park and walk or bicycle through the lush greenery and smelling the fresh sea air from the Pacific Ocean. Or invite your guests to embark on an old-fashioned horse drawn carriage tour. The tours last about an hour and a guide narrates all the highlights and hot spots.
My favourite is our next stop, FlyOver Canada. This exhilarating virtual ride takes you on a 6,000km tour of Canada. You sit, feet dangling before a 20-metre spherical screen while the film whisks you away on a breathtaking journey across the country.
Granville Island is another must. Its charm lies in its unexpected mix of uses. It is Vancouver’s premier artistic and cultural hub. No two days are ever the same. Enjoy the Public Market, browse the shops, take in a live performance, or enjoy the works of Canada’s many artists and designers.
After a day of sightseeing, come back to the shopping centre for fresh dinner items. Head to Oakridge Fish Market for a home cooked seafood feast or browse the organic fruits and vegetables next door at Kin’s Farm Market. Saint Germain Bakery believes that their cakes should be edible art and perfect for any gathering. Before you leave, you may need to treat yourself to an invigorating treatment at My Foot Reflexology.
Crainy Ge We can’t imagine anyone who would know better how to deliver exemplary service to our guests than our own super-shopper, Crainy. Or have the style to offer it up with a more stunning smile, (as those who’ve had the pleasure of meeting her can attest). It turns out Crainy wasn’t so far off envisioning herself as an Ambassador growing up – we certainly consider her ours! When she’s not leading the charge in offering Oakridge guests customer service that achieves next level, chances are you’ll find Crainy treating herself to a good retail sesh. Aka research!
