Oakridge Centre has been part of the Vancouver community for over 50 years and has a long history of participating in charitable events and supporting organizations that help to enhance the lives of the people living and working in our community. Oakridge Centre is very proud to be an active partner in the community and is committed to being a good corporate citizen.
We have fundraising programs in place for these charities:
Oakridge Centre has been a proud donor to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice prior to its opening in 1995. Since the partnership began over $660,000 has been raised through various fundraising programs undertaken by the shopping centre including Fashion Shows, Halloween and Holiday events, and other community functions.
Canuck Place opened its doors in 1995 as the first free standing children’s hospice in North America, and sixth in the world. Today it is recognized as a leader in pediatric palliative care sharing knowledge, expertise and research regionally, nationally and internationally to assist in the further development of best practices in this field.
Canuck Place offers a comprehensive continuum of care to over 400 children and teens with life-threatening illnesses and their families throughout British Columbia. The unique program offers world-class pediatric palliative hospice care within a home-like environment and year-round 24 hour consultation support. With caring, professional staff and over 350 dedicated volunteers, it is a place for children and families to come in their time of need.
Dress for Success Vancouver is a registered Canadian charity that helps low and no income women to transition into the workforce by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life. Each Dress for Success client receives a suit for her interviews and a small working wardrobe when she gets her job. The suits given symbolize their faith in every woman’s ability to succeed.
Oakridge Centre has partnered with DFSV on several events over the last few years including purse drives, power walks, and most recently our popular Style Night shopping events. To date our support has helped raise over $44,000, plus $30,000 in donated clothing, shoes and purses.
BC Blind Sports is dedicated to facilitating participation and encouraging skill achievement in all aspects of physical activity for British Columbians who are blind, visually impaired, deaf-blind, or who are blind/visually impaired and have additional disabilities.
Everyone should have the ability to experience the enjoyment of achieving a healthy active lifestyle through participation in physical activity, physical education, recreation, outdoor pursuits, and sport at their chosen level.
Every holiday season, you can see the volunteers of this not for profit organization working tirelessly at the Holiday Gift Wrap Service booth in the West Galleria from the first week of December to Christmas Eve. Each year their efforts help raise over $17,000. Be sure to visit them over the holidays and have your gifts wrapped while you shop!
Oakridge Centre is a proud partner of the Canadian Flowers for Food Society. This organization’s mission is to provide social, and financial opportunities for senior citizens, homeless people, and/or those coping with severe mental illnesses, in our surrounding community. Oakridge Centre helps to accomplish this through the donation of our potted plants and cut flowers. When the centre is ready to rotate our various potted plants, we donate the existing ones to Canadian Flowers for Food Society, to re-plant them at their various Senior’s homes and centres in our community.
We thank the Canadian Flowers for Food Society for helping us make better communities for everyone. The beauty of giving is in bloom.
