Flare Magazine & Oakridge Present the Spring/Summer 2011 Trend Report

Posted by Oakridge Centre on May 25, 2011

On Thursday, May 12, over 150 guests joined Oakridge Centre and FLARE Magazine for a special shopping night and live presentation of Spring/Summers 2011’s fashion trends. This exclusive event offered an exciting and current look into the world of fashion hosted by Mosha Lundstrom Halbert, FLARE’s Associate Editor.

Mosha has traveled the continents covering the latest runway shows and her list of top ten looks (visit oakridgecentre.com/trend for the list) for the season was much sought after by fashionistas in the know.

We raised over $2600 for Dress for Success Vancouver through door sales and raffle tickets. Guests enjoyed Cointreau cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a high-end runway show, and walked away with fabulous gift bags including a $20 Gift Card to spend that night. A special thank you to all attendees for your continued support!

Flare's Top Ten Trends:

Seventies Style
Gypsy dresses, peasant tops, safari shirts, Chinois robes and les smoking suits all referenced the decade’s top looks.

The 90’s Minimalist
The look ran the gamut from clean and lean tailored separates to underground techno prints, with touches of PVC and liquid silver.

Clean Slate
With minimal accessories and an absence of any accent colours, the emphasis was on sleek all-white looks and spellbindingly silhouettes.  It was stark-chic in its purest form.

The Sportive
A sporty wave of team players crossed the catwalk finishing line in racerbacks, neoprene, nylon anoraks, baseball jerseys and rugby stripes.

In Living Colour
Unabashedly happy hues were the season’s most exhilarating movement. The best part? No pigment was off-limits. Novelty neons to warm reds, magentas and oranges (the hottest hue) set the season aglow.

The Showstoppers
Clusters of sequins, artful appliqués of beads and rows of flapper-girl fringe added beguiling decadence to nightlife frocks.

The Mid-Calf Skirt
A boundary-pushing new look that has banished minis to the back of the closet. Not stopping there, floor-sweeping skirts with daring slits also claimed the spotlight.

Neo-Punk
Laced motorcycle pants, slashed tops, leather vests and studded perfectos were a luxe step-up from previous punk incarnations. Bold patterns and flashes of red kept the moody trend upbeat.

Boldface Prints
Enigmatic prints commanded attention. Take the maxed-out graphic floral patterns; or the tribe of jungle animals and fruit graphics worthy of Carmen Miranda; plus a graphic attack of bright stripes.

Sportswear Supreme
Relaxed tailoring referenced sportswear’s glory years in the ‘70’s and early ‘80’s. Oversized blazers, wide-flare trousers, denim and heritage loafers looked like they were borrowed from the menswear section. The impact: easy luxury with plenty of swagger.
